| More on Narva We'll try to drive around Narva to find more rollling stock, but are out of luck. All we find on the southern side of the city is rain, more rain and some goats on the field hearded by the local people. We decide to start driving back towards Tallinn. Interestingly, after half an hours drive at Kohtla-Jarve there is finally something to see: 2 different types of Tem 2:s are doing local switching next to the "burning rock" power plant. The hoppers they pull are filled with something looking more like sand than coal...interesting! (More on the subject later). ![]() ![]() South of the Kohtla-Jarve we cross the main track again and manage to catch another unit train on it's way east. It seems like the this saturday 80% of the trains are going east. This might be due to Estonias announcement two days earlier that they would not give Russia a permission to study their sea floor outside the coast for the to be built gas line between Russia and Germany. The gas pipe line is to bypass the "third" countries between the parties, since the lines running through several countries have been part of political game against Russia at least for two of them. Probably the volumes will return to their normal levels in a little while, allowing the Estonian workers to earn their living again. ![]() Above another one of the Transoil's 2Te116's pulling the empties east towards Narva and the Russian border. Notice the relatively new cars waiting at the crossing. The Estonian economy really is working at the high gear making people wealthier than ever before! Always happens that finally you are in a hurry to the boat, so we drove straight back the motorway. The following pictures were taken outside Tallinn again from the same place we started in the morning. With sun setting we were tired and ready to take a fast boat back Finland. ![]() ![]() Back to page 1... 4rail.net
