The weekend Alpine Railway model railroad show in Tapiola March 1st 2008 was an impressive success. Thousands of people visited the layout during one day and the shopping center was swarming with shoppers. Here is a view of hundred happy faced visitors and 1/3 of the giant modular portable layout visible. This show was arranged with the local Lions clubs, Alpine Railway hobbyists and Living Tapiola organization together. Even though Alpine Railway is a modular design, it took the whole week to put the layout together! Here some of the hobbyists are bolting the modular benchwork together. On the benchwork the 60 x 120 cm modules add the scenery with the track. The impressive electronics are hidden under and behind the benchwork. Another view to the crowds around the layouts section behind the corner...the little you may see behind the people. Even in the roomy shopping center it might get crowded when a lot of people fill the empty space! Here is a view to some of the Alpine Railway crew members. The layout is currently controlled with a state of art DCC system (computer controlled trains and other functions). The user interface is normally provided by handy Roco Lokmaus 2's, because they are cheap and widely available as used. The Lokmauses are an "expendable" resource as are other Roco electronics used, since they have a tendency to brake down after a while on the "real world" rough professional train moving. But, since the used Roco equipment are cheap, they are still a good enough alternative. A container train curving along some of the older landscape on the Alpine Railway. The driver is in a hurry to move the train away shortly before the TGV Duplex is to follow it's path. Slow for a super high speed train, but this is mountaineous Swiss terrain. |

Shows in 2007 As usual, also the year 2007 was a very intense year with many shows for the Alpine Railway. Our modular layout took part in 5 shows either in a partial configuration, or as the huge, full scale Alpine Railway. => The Pienoisrautatiekerho Christmas Show 2007 This is the trditional show held at the VR-Yhtyma 100 year old cafeteria at the Helsinki Main Station (In Finland). Alpine Railway miniconfiguration was present at the show. ![]() An Re6/6 passing the busy station on the Alpine Railway. => National Model Railway Meeting in Tampere Finland The meeting was held in Tampere at the end of October. Thousands of model railroad hobbyists gathered there from all around Finland as well as closeby countries. Several layouts - including of course the Alpine Railway - were shown, as well as other railway related material, e.g. steam locomotives, steam machines, railway themed collectibles, pictures, films, etc. ![]() Picture: Alpine Railway took part in the yearly national model railroad meeting in Tampere, Finland 27.-28.10.2007. Our layout was presented only in a mini configuration, which is shown in the picture.
